Founded in 1920 at the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute, this department was called "Soil Science and Geology", "Soil Science and Melioration", "Soil Science and Agrochemistry", "Soil Science and Ecological Agriculture". From the day of its foundation the department was headed by famous scientists in different years: D. Ivanov, P. Kurchatov, Kh. Khalilov, B. Bayramov, T. Aliev, Z. Suleimanov.
The main activity of the Department of Agrochemistry is the optimization of fertilizer rates to maintain soil fertility, increase the yield and quality of agricultural crops, depending on soil and climatic conditions. Currently, the department employs 9 professors and teachers. There are 1 doctor of agricultural sciences, professor, 3 doctors of philosophy of agricultural sciences, 2 associate professors, 1 senior teacher, 4 assistant who carry out research work in accordance with the profile of the department.
